In early 2015, as Tianyan's first generation of the trading system was implemented, I was excited and surprised to see that technology could be such a great tool to finance industry.

In the past eight years, Tianyan has continued to evolve. We truly believe that “Coding is just a way of approach, what matters most is the idea”. Instead of writing codes aimlessly, we use technology to solve problems.

My work includes building algorithmic frameworks, designing models, and algorithm implementations. Unlike fields with big data, the data in the finance industry is scarcer and unevenly distributed. A lot of methods and techniques that are widely used in other industries could not simply be applied in the finance industry. It’s far more difficult to adjust the model parameter accurately.

However, we could get valuable feedback from the market every day. It provides me with a great sense of satisfaction.

Research work is complex and difficult in nature. It requires a significant amount of time and effort just to make a tiny little progress. There is no shortcut in this line of work.

The company encourages us to conduct research and perform analysis constantly to discover patterns that are not found by others. It always gives me a great sense of accomplishment when we apply what we have discovered in the real world.

Quantitative investment is more about interacting with our automated trading system, developing tools to monitor various parameters, and dealing with abnormal situations promptly.
